# Artifacts
Source: https://docs.dimension.dev/artifacts
Generate presentations, spreadsheets, documents, and PDFs directly from chat.
Artifacts are rich documents that Dimension creates during chat. Ask for what you need, and Dimension generates it — ready to export, edit, or share.
## Types
| Type | Export format |
| ----------------- | ------------- |
| **Presentations** | PPTX, PDF |
| **Spreadsheets** | XLSX |
| **Documents** | Rich text |
| **PDF Documents** | PDF |
## Creating artifacts
Describe what you need in chat:
* "Create a presentation about our Q4 results"
* "Build a spreadsheet comparing competitor pricing"
* "Write a project brief for the mobile app redesign"
* "Generate a PDF report of our quarterly metrics"
For presentations and PDFs, Dimension proposes an outline first for your approval before generating the full content. You can request changes to the outline before proceeding.
Take a moment to review the outline — it's much easier to restructure content at this stage than after the full artifact is generated.
Dimension generates the full artifact. You can preview it directly in chat and export it in the supported format.
Ask Dimension to revise any artifact after it's been created:
* "Change slide 3 to focus more on revenue growth"
* "Add a new sheet with monthly totals"
* "Rewrite the introduction to be more concise"
## Sharing
You can share any artifact via a public link. Anyone with the link can view the full content without needing a Dimension account.
You can also share an entire conversation's artifacts at once via a shared thread link.
## Library
All artifacts are saved to your **Library** automatically. You can browse, search, favorite, and manage your artifacts from the Library page.
# Chat
Source: https://docs.dimension.dev/chat
Chat with Dimension to ask questions, take actions, and get things done across your tools.
Chat is the main way you interact with Dimension. Ask questions, give instructions, and Dimension takes action across your connected tools.
## What you can do
### Ask questions
* "What meetings do I have today?"
* "What's the status of the authentication issue in Linear?"
* "Find the design doc for the new onboarding flow"
### Take actions
* "Send an email to Sarah about the project update"
* "Create a Linear issue for the login bug"
* "Post a message in #engineering on Slack"
### Create content
* "Draft a presentation about our Q4 results"
* "Create a spreadsheet comparing our pricing tiers"
* "Write a project brief for the mobile app redesign"
### Multi-step tasks
* "Go through my unread emails and create Linear issues for any action items"
* "Check my calendar for tomorrow and prepare briefing notes for each meeting"
* "Analyze our GitHub PRs from last week and write a summary for the team"
Dimension automatically figures out the best way to handle your request — simple tasks run directly, complex ones get broken into steps.
## Approvals
For sensitive actions like sending emails, creating issues, or posting messages, Dimension pauses and asks for your approval before proceeding.
When this happens, you can:
* **Accept** — run the action as proposed
* **Reject** — cancel it
* **Edit** — modify the details before approving (e.g., tweak an email draft)
* **Respond** — give Dimension more context to adjust its approach
You can configure which actions need approval in your settings, or turn off approvals entirely for tools you trust.
You can also ask Dimension in chat to adjust your approval preferences — e.g., "stop asking for approval before sending Slack messages."
## Execution modes
Fast and lightweight. Best for simple questions, quick lookups, and straightforward actions like sending an email or creating an issue.
Deeper reasoning and multi-step planning. Best for complex tasks that span multiple tools — like triaging a bug across Sentry, Linear, and Slack, or analyzing a week's worth of GitHub activity.
You can switch between modes at any time using the selector in the chat input.
## Voice input
Click the microphone button in the chat input to dictate your message instead of typing.
## File attachments
You can drag and drop files into chat or use the attachment button. Attach a file and ask Dimension to summarize it, analyze it, or use it as context for a task.
**Supported file formats:** images, PDF, DOCX, TXT, XLSX, CSV, PPTX, audio, and video.
## Threads
Each conversation is a thread. You can search past threads with **Cmd+K**, rename them, or delete them. Dimension remembers the full context of each thread.
Have more questions? Check the [FAQ](/faq#chat) for detailed answers about chat, approvals, voice input, and more.
# Custom MCP integrations
Source: https://docs.dimension.dev/custom-mcp
Connect any tool to Dimension using the Model Context Protocol.
If you use a tool that Dimension doesn't natively support, you can connect it yourself using a custom MCP (Model Context Protocol) server.
Before setting up a custom integration, check the [Integrations](/integrations) page — Dimension already has native support for tools like Linear, Notion, GitHub, Sentry, and Stripe, which offer a smoother experience out of the box.
## Adding a custom integration
Navigate to the **Integrations** page in the app.
Click **New Integration** and provide:
* **Name** — What you want to call this integration
* **Description** — What the integration does (this helps Dimension understand when to use it)
Provide the server URL and authenticate:
```bash Streamable HTTP theme={null}
https://mcp.example.com/mcp
```
```bash SSE (Legacy) theme={null}
https://mcp.example.com/sse
```
If the server supports OAuth, you'll be taken through an OAuth flow. Otherwise, provide an API key.
Dimension auto-discovers the server's capabilities when you enter the URL. Review the available tools and confirm the integration.
Only connect MCP servers you trust. A custom integration can read and act on your data just like a native one — make sure you understand what the server has access to.
## What you can do with it
Once connected, Dimension can use your custom integration just like any built-in one — reading data, taking actions, and using it in chat, workflows, and skills.

## Integrations
Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Drive, Google Docs, Google Sheets, Google Slides, Slack, GitHub, Linear, Notion, Vercel, Railway, Sentry, Stripe, Airtable, Dropbox, and Granola.
You can also interact with Dimension via **iMessage** and **Slack Bot**.
More integrations are coming soon, including Figma, HubSpot, PostHog, Intercom, and others.
Go to the **Integrations** page and click on the integration you want to connect. For Google Workspace, one connection unlocks Gmail, Calendar, Drive, Docs, Sheets, and Slides.
Some integrations (Gmail, Google Drive, Slack, Linear, Notion, GitHub, Airtable, Dropbox, etc.) support indexing — Dimension processes your data in the background to make it searchable across all your tools at once. You can see indexing progress on each integration's detail page.
Go to the **Integrations** page, select the integration, and disconnect it. All associated data is permanently deleted.
Yes. You can connect any MCP-compatible tool. Go to **Integrations**, click **New Integration**, provide a name, description, and the MCP server URL (Streamable HTTP or SSE). If the server supports OAuth, you'll go through an OAuth flow; otherwise, provide an API key. See [Custom MCP integrations](/custom-mcp) for details.
Yes. Connect **iMessage** (requires phone number verification) or the **Slack Bot** integration, and you can message Dimension directly from those apps.
Each integration shows capability tags on the Integrations page. The four capability types are:
* **Read** — Pull in your data (emails, issues, messages, files, etc.)
* **Act** — Take actions on your behalf (send emails, create issues, post messages)
* **Search** — Your data is indexed and searchable across all tools
* **Trigger** — Unlock [workflow triggers](/workflows) (e.g., "when a new email arrives")
## Chat
Ask questions across your tools, take actions (send emails, create issues, post messages), create artifacts (presentations, spreadsheets, documents, PDFs), and handle complex multi-step tasks that span multiple tools.
For sensitive actions like sending emails, creating issues, or posting messages, Dimension pauses and asks for your approval. You can:
* **Accept** — run the action as proposed
* **Reject** — cancel it
* **Edit** — modify the details before approving
* **Respond** — give Dimension more context to adjust its approach
Go to **Settings > User** and enable the **Auto Approve** toggle. This makes all actions execute without asking first. You can also ask Dimension in chat to adjust your approval preferences.
Yes. Click the microphone button in the chat input to dictate your message. Voice is transcribed using Whisper. Available on web and desktop.
You can attach images (PNG, JPEG, WebP), PDF, DOCX, TXT, XLSX, CSV, PPTX, audio (AAC, FLAC, MP3, M4A, WAV), and video (MP4, WebM, MOV). Drag and drop files into chat or use the attachment button.
Press **Cmd+K** (Mac) or **Ctrl+K** (Windows) to search your threads by keyword.
Press **Shift+Cmd+O** (Mac) or **Shift+Ctrl+O** (Windows), or click the new chat button in the sidebar.
Dimension remembers everything within a thread. Across threads, it can search your past conversations and connected tools to find relevant context.
Yes. You can ask Dimension to change settings directly in chat — things like notification preferences, approval settings, and proactive features.
## Artifacts
Presentations, Spreadsheets, Documents, and PDF Documents.
| Artifact type | Export formats |
| ----------------- | --------------------------------- |
| **Presentations** | PPTX, PDF, Google Slides, Dropbox |
| **Spreadsheets** | XLSX, Google Sheets, Dropbox |
| **Documents** | PDF, DOCX, Google Docs, Dropbox |
| **PDF Documents** | PDF |
Yes. Ask Dimension to revise it in the same thread — e.g., "Change slide 3 to focus on revenue growth" or "Add a new sheet with monthly totals."
Yes. You can share any artifact via a public link. Anyone with the link can view it without a Dimension account. You can also share an entire thread's artifacts at once via a shared thread link.
All artifacts are saved to your **Library** automatically, where you can browse, search, and favorite them.
## Workflows
Go to the **Workflows** page and create one, or ask Dimension in chat — e.g., "Create a workflow that summarizes my emails every morning."
* **Scheduled** — Run at set times (daily, weekdays, weekly, or custom cron schedule)
* **Triggered** — Run automatically when an event happens in a connected tool
| Integration | Triggers |
| ------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Gmail** | New email (filterable by label) |
| **Slack** | New DM, new message in a channel |
| **Google Calendar** | Before or after a calendar event |
| **Vercel** | Deployment succeeded/failed (filterable by project and environment) |
| **Linear** | Cycle started/ended, issue created (filterable by team) |
| **GitHub** | PR opened (filterable by repo) |
| **Airtable** | New records added (filterable by base and table) |
| **Google Sheets** | New rows added (filterable by spreadsheet and sheet) |
| **Stripe** | Customer created, invoice paid/failed, payment succeeded, checkout completed |
Each workflow has an approval toggle. When set to **Ask for approval**, Dimension pauses before taking sensitive actions. When set to **Auto approve**, the workflow runs fully automatically without asking.
Results are delivered via your preferred communication channel (Gmail, Slack, iMessage, or Mobile Notifications). Change this in **Settings > User > Preferred Mode of Communication**. You can also specify a destination in the workflow prompt — e.g., "...and post the summary in #general on Slack."
A library of pre-built workflows organized by role (Engineering, Product, Marketing, Sales, etc.). You can install and customize them, or publish your own workflows for others to use.
Yes. You can share a workflow via a unique link without submitting it to the public Marketplace.
## Skills
Skills are reusable instructions that teach Dimension how to handle tasks your way. They can be simple rules (e.g., "always sign off emails with just my first name") or deep knowledge learned by researching your data. Unlike [workflows](/workflows), skills are used on-demand during chat.
When you create a skill with a learning prompt (e.g., "Learn how our fund evaluates investments from our Google Drive memos"), Dimension researches your data, builds knowledge, and saves a summary. After each run, use the **Learn** section to give feedback and refine the skill's behavior over time.
Dimension automatically selects the most relevant skill based on your request. You can also ask for a specific skill directly in chat.
Yes. Browse the **Skills Marketplace** for pre-built skills organized by role. You can install them directly, or install and trigger learning immediately.
Yes. You can submit a skill for review. Once approved, it appears in the Marketplace for others to install.
## Proactive features
Automated features that work behind the scenes without you having to ask. There are six, and you can toggle each one individually in **Settings > Preference > Background Agents**:
* **Action Items** — Detects urgent tasks from your tools
* **Evening Recap** — End-of-day summary
* **Morning Briefing** — Start-of-day overview
* **Email Tagging** — Auto-categorizes your Gmail
* **Email Auto-Drafting** — Generates draft replies
* **Meeting Prep** — Briefing notes before meetings
Dimension prepares it around 5 AM your local time and notifies you around 8 AM. It appears on your home screen when you open the app.
Your schedule for the day, weather, emails and Slack messages needing attention, GitHub PR activity, and Linear status. It also includes suggested replies for emails and Slack messages you can send directly.
Part of the Morning Briefing with three tabs:
* **Slack** — Unread DMs with suggested replies
* **Gmail** — Unread emails with draft replies
* **Meetings** — Upcoming meetings with prep notes
Each tab shows a dot indicator when there are items to review.
Dimension automatically labels your emails in Gmail with 10 categories: **Urgent**, **Action Needed**, **Follow Up**, **Awaiting Reply**, **Meeting**, **FYI**, **Done**, **Payment**, **Newsletter**, and **Marketing**. Labels appear numbered in Gmail (e.g., "1: urgent") for easy ordering. When you reply to an email, it gets re-tagged automatically.
Go to **Settings > Preference > Background Agents** and toggle off **Email Tagging**.
Go to **Settings > Preference > Background Agents** and toggle off **Email Auto-Drafting**.
Go to **Settings > Preference > Background Agents** and toggle off **Morning Briefing**.
Dimension generates prep notes when your calendar syncs and refreshes them approximately 20 minutes before each meeting.
Around 7 PM your local time. It summarizes your day — meetings, emails, code changes, and tickets. If Dimension knows your personal context (partner, hobbies, city from your **Background**), it may include personalized recommendations like nearby restaurants or events.
New calendar invites, incoming emails, GitHub PR review requests, Linear issue assignments, priority escalations, and mentions in Linear comments.
You can teach Dimension your tone by creating a [skill](/skills) that describes how you write. You can also set your background in **Settings > User > Background** to give Dimension more context about you.
Dimension creates a background thread and works through the task on its own. You'll get notified when it's done, or if it needs your input to continue.
## Notifications
Go to **Settings > User > Preferred Mode of Communication** and choose **Gmail**, **Slack**, **iMessage**, or **Mobile Notifications**.
You need to connect the **Slack Bot** integration first (for Slack) or verify your phone number via the **iMessage** integration (for iMessage). **Mobile Notifications** will be available once the iOS app launches.
Not yet. Push notifications will be available once the iOS app launches. In the meantime, you can use **Gmail**, **Slack**, or **iMessage** as your preferred communication channel.
Go to **Settings > Preference > Sound** and choose **Always play sound**, **Only when tab is not focused**, or **Mute**.
Go to **Settings > User > Preferred Mode of Communication** and switch to Slack, iMessage, or Mobile Notifications instead of Gmail.
## Privacy & security
No. Dimension never trains AI models on your data, never sells your information, and never shares it with third parties.
All data associated with that integration is permanently and completely deleted, including indexed content.
Dimension cancels your subscription, removes all billing records, disconnects all integrations, deletes all indexed data, conversations, and user records. This is permanent and irreversible.
Dimension is **CASA Tier 2** certified and has been **third-party penetration tested** by independent security researchers. **SOC 2** and **GDPR** certifications are underway.
No. Payments are handled entirely by **Stripe**. Dimension never stores payment information.
Yes. All data is protected with enterprise-grade encryption in transit and at rest. OAuth tokens are stored securely and are not accessible to Dimension personnel.
## Email preferences
Go to **Settings > Preference > Email Preferences** and toggle off **Promotional Emails**.
Go to **Settings > Preference > Email Preferences** and toggle off **Product Updates**.
## Troubleshooting
Indexing happens in the background and can take time depending on the volume of data. Check progress on the integration's detail page on the **Integrations** page.
Make sure the integration is connected and active on the **Integrations** page. For workflows, ensure the relevant integration is selected in the workflow's integrations list.
After 14 days of inactivity, Dimension sends a warning email with a 3-day grace period. If you don't return, your workflows are paused. They automatically resume when you come back.
Email [support@dimension.dev](mailto:support@dimension.dev), or ask Dimension in chat to file a support ticket for you.

# Integrations
Source: https://docs.dimension.dev/integrations
Connect your favorite tools and let Dimension work across all of them.
Integrations connect Dimension to the tools you use every day. Once connected, Dimension can read your data, take actions on your behalf, and search across everything at once.
You can browse and connect integrations from the **Integrations** page in the app.
Connecting **Google Workspace** unlocks Gmail, Calendar, Drive, Docs, Sheets, and Slides — all in one step. It's the best place to start.
## What happens when you connect a tool
When you connect an integration, Dimension gets three capabilities:
* **Read** — Pull in your emails, calendar events, issues, messages, files, and more
* **Act** — Send emails, create issues, post messages, schedule events, and take other actions
* **Search** — Dimension indexes your data in the background so it can search across all your tools when answering questions
* **Trigger** — Some integrations unlock [workflow triggers](/workflows#triggered-workflows) — for example, connecting Gmail lets you trigger a workflow when a new email arrives, and connecting GitHub lets you trigger one when a PR is opened
Each integration shows its specific capabilities as tags so you know exactly what Dimension can do with it.
## Indexing
Dimension can index data from your connected tools. Your data is securely stored in Dimension's encrypted databases, making it searchable across every integration at once.
Ask "what did the team discuss about the redesign?" and Dimension searches your Slack messages, Linear issues, Notion pages, and Google Docs to find the answer.
Supported tools include Gmail, Google Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slack, Linear, Notion, GitHub, Airtable, Dropbox, and more. Track indexing progress on each integration's detail page.
If you disconnect an integration, all indexed data is permanently deleted. See [Security](/security) for details.
## Bundled integrations
Some integrations are bundled together for convenience:
* **Google Workspace** — Connecting Google unlocks Gmail, Calendar, Drive, Docs, Sheets, and Slides. You can choose which services to enable.
* **Notion** — You can separately enable capabilities (create and edit pages) and indexing (search across your Notion workspace).
## Custom integrations
If you use a tool that isn't natively supported, you can connect it via MCP.
See [Custom MCP integrations](/custom-mcp) for a step-by-step guide on connecting any tool using the Model Context Protocol.
## Security

How Dimension keeps your data safe.
Dimension connects to your most sensitive tools — your email, calendar, code, and documents. We take that responsibility seriously. Security isn't an afterthought — it's built into every layer of how we handle your data.
Dimension never trains AI models on your data, never sells your information, and never shares it with third parties for advertising. Your data is yours.
## Encryption
All data is protected with enterprise-grade encryption in transit and at rest. OAuth tokens are stored securely and are not accessible to Dimension personnel.
## Compliance
Certified through the Cloud Application Security Assessment.
Third-party penetration tested by independent security researchers.

Certification underway.
Payments are handled entirely by **Stripe** — Dimension never stores payment information.
## Your controls
You're always in control of your data:
* **Disconnect an integration** and Dimension permanently and completely deletes all associated data
* **Delete your account** from Settings to permanently remove all your data, integrations, and conversations
* **Revoke access** to any third-party integration through the provider's settings at any time
## Breach notification
In the event of a data breach, Dimension will notify affected users within 72 hours.
# Skills
Source: https://docs.dimension.dev/skills
Teach Dimension how to handle specific tasks your way.
Skills teach Dimension how you work. They can be simple rules ("always sign off emails with just my first name") or deep knowledge that Dimension learns by researching your tools. Unlike [workflows](/workflows) which run automatically, skills are used during chat — Dimension automatically picks the right skill when it's relevant, or you can ask for one directly.
## What makes up a skill
* **Prompt** — Instructions or a learning task for Dimension
* **Integrations** — Which tools the skill can access
* **Memory** — What the skill has learned over time from research and your feedback
## Examples
Tell Dimension how you communicate:
```
When drafting emails or Slack messages, match my writing tone:
- Keep it casual and direct
- Use short sentences, no filler
- Never use "I hope this email finds you well" or similar
- Sign off with just my first name
```
Dimension automatically applies this whenever you ask it to write a message.
Skills can actively learn from your connected tools. For example:
```
Learn how our fund evaluates investments by reading through
our investment memos and partner meeting notes in Google Drive.
Understand our thesis, what we look for in founders, and our
typical deal structure.
```
Dimension researches your data, builds up knowledge, and then uses it whenever you ask about evaluating a deal or drafting investment notes.
Encode your team's process into a skill:
```
When I ask you to triage a bug:
- Check Sentry for related errors
- Look for similar issues in Linear
- If it's a new bug, create a Linear issue with severity based on error frequency
- Post a summary in #engineering on Slack
```
## Learning from feedback
Skills get better over time. After a skill runs, you can give it feedback in the **Learn** section — tell it what to do differently, and it updates its memory. Each correction makes the skill more aligned with how you work.
Use the **Learn** section after every skill run to fine-tune Dimension's behavior. The more feedback you give, the better the skill gets.
## Skills vs. workflows
| | Skills | Workflows |
| ----------------- | ------------------------------ | -------------------------------------- |
| **When they run** | On-demand in chat | Automatically on a schedule or trigger |
| **Learning** | Gets better from your feedback | Static prompt |
## Marketplace
Browse and install pre-built skills from the marketplace, organized by role. You can also publish your own skills for others to use.
# Workflows
Source: https://docs.dimension.dev/workflows
Automate recurring tasks with workflows that run on a schedule or in response to events.
Workflows are automated routines that run without you having to do anything. Define a task once, and Dimension runs it for you — on a schedule or when something happens in your tools.
## How to create a workflow
You can create workflows from the **Workflows** page or by asking Dimension in chat:
* "Create a workflow that summarizes my emails every morning"
* "Set up a workflow that posts a Slack message when a Vercel deployment fails"
A workflow has a few parts:
* **Prompt** — What you want Dimension to do, written in plain language
* **Integrations** — Which tools the workflow can use

## Workflow types
Run at set times — daily, weekdays, weekly, or custom.
**Examples:**
* Every weekday at 9 AM — summarize unread emails
* Every Monday at 8 AM — weekly sprint summary
* Every Friday at 5 PM — weekly accomplishment recap
Run automatically when something happens in your tools.
| Integration | Triggers |
| ------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Gmail** | New email (filter by label) |
| **Slack** | New DM, new message in a channel |
| **Google Calendar** | Before or after a calendar event |
| **Vercel** | Deployment failed or succeeded |
| **Linear** | Cycle started/ended, issue created |
| **GitHub** | PR opened |
| **Airtable** | New records added |
| **Google Sheets** | New rows added |
| **Stripe** | Customer created, invoice paid/failed, payment succeeded, checkout completed |
All triggers support filters so you can narrow down when the workflow fires (e.g., only specific Slack channels, repos, or labels).
## Example workflows
| Trigger | What Dimension does |
| ---------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------- |
| New email from a client | Summarize the email and create a todo |
| Vercel deployment failed | Post failure details to Slack and create a Linear issue |
| GitHub PR opened | Review the changes and post a summary comment |
| Calendar event in 15 minutes | Prepare meeting briefing notes |
## Notifications
When a workflow finishes, Dimension notifies you through your preferred channel — email, Slack, iMessage, or push notification. You can change your preferred channel in **Settings**. Email is the default.
You can also tell Dimension where to send results directly in the workflow prompt — e.g. "...and post the summary in #general on Slack" — as long as that integration is connected.
## Approvals
Workflows can run fully automatically, or you can require approval before Dimension takes sensitive actions — just like approvals in chat.
Disabling approvals means workflows will take actions (like sending emails or posting messages) without asking first. Only disable approvals for workflows you've thoroughly tested.
## Marketplace
Browse and install pre-built workflows from the marketplace, organized by role (Engineering, Product, Marketing, Sales, etc.). You can also publish your own workflows for others to use.
The Marketplace is a great way to get started — find a workflow close to what you need and customize it.
